The Connection model is the basis for the connections you are going to define, regardless of the type of connection. It is possible to include different types of connections in one Connection model.

Before creating a Connection model, make sure you have opened the model package containing the model that you want to use for the information exchange. For information exchange with Excel, it can be an ArchiMate® or ERD model. If you want to connect with ServiceNow, it must be an ArchiMate model.

Steps:

  1. In the model browser, right-click the model package, point to New > Connection model, and then click 1. Empty model with connection view.

The new Connection model containing a connection view and connections container, appears in the model browser, right below the model package.

  2. Name the new connection.

  3. Select the connection view in the model browser to open it. In this view, you can create connections for data exchange with an external application.

Adding additional connection views

If you need more connections views, for example, to separate the different types of connections, you can add additional connection views. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. In the model browser, right-click the Connection model or a folder within the model, point to New, and click Connection view.

The new view appears in the model browser, right below the model.

  2. Click the newly added view in the model browser to open it.
