If you have created your own shape or icon symbols or have a set of icons available that you want to use in your models, they need to be included in your tool configuration to make them available.

If you work with the on-premise or hybrid solution, follow the procedure that is applicable to the current tool configuration of your model package. If you use the cloud solution, it is recommended to use a local client of Enterprise Studio to perform the  appropriate procedure. The latest version of the Enterprise Studio client can be downloaded from the Bizzdesign Support portal. If you are not able to use a local client, please contact your Bizzdesign consultant for assistance and guidance on including your custom symbols.

Custom symbols are defined in the configuration of Enterprise Studio. Introducing custom symbols means that you have to include them in the tool configuration of your model packages to make the custom symbols available. Once added to the configuration of your model packages, the custom symbols will be there permanently. You cannot remove or change the symbols.

Including custom symbols using the default configuration

If your model package uses the default tool configuration, follow the steps below to include the custom symbols.

  1. Make sure that Enterprise Studio is closed.

  2. Copy your default tool configuration to another location on your machine.

  3. Copy your custom symbols to the SymbolDefinitions folder in the tool configuration copy. Location: configuration\SymbolDefinitions.

  4. Start Enterprise Studio and go to File > Options.

  5. On the Configuration tab, select Use the configuration on the following location and select the location of the tool configuration with the custom symbols.

  6. Select the Reload configuration at startup check box.

  7. Save the changes and restart Enterprise Studio.

The new custom symbols are now available. To check this before including the symbols in your model packages, create a new model package, add a new object and change its graphic shape. The custom symbols should be available to select. If everything is ok, continue with the next steps to include the symbols in your existing model packages.

  1. Open your model package.

  2. Manually migrate the model package to the new tool configuration and commit the changes. To do this, go to File > Options, and on the Configuration tab, click Start migration. For detailed instructions, click here.

If migration was successful, your model package now has the custom symbols. Repeat the two steps for each model package you want to add the custom symbols to.

The manual migration is a one-time action. Next time, you can use the regular migration procedure again to upgrade your model packages to a new tool configuration (via File > Manage Package > Manage Configuration > Upgrade configuration).

  3. When you are done migrating your model packages, go to File > Options again.

  4. On the Configuration tab, clear the Reload configuration at startup check box and then select Use the default configuration.

  5. Save the changes and restart Enterprise Studio.

Including custom symbols using a custom configuration

For this procedure it is assumed that the custom configuration is made using the Metamodeler. If your configuration has customizations made outside the Metamodeler, do not follow the procedure below. Instead, contact your Bizzdesign consultant for assistance and guidance.

  1. Make sure that Enterprise Studio is closed.

  2. Copy your custom symbols to the SymbolDefinitions folder in the default tool configuration of your Enterprise Studio installation. Default location: C:\Program Files\BiZZdesign\Enterprise Studio version\configuration\SymbolDefinitions.

  3. Start Enterprise Studio.

The new custom symbols are now available in your default configuration. To check this before including the symbols in your model packages, create a new model package, add a new object and change its graphic shape. The custom symbols should be available to select. If everything is ok, continue with the next steps to include the symbols in your existing model packages.

  1. Open your model package.

  2. Migrate the model package the regular way and commit the changes. To do this, go to File > Manage Package > Manage Configuration > Upgrade configuration.

If migration was successful, your model package now has the custom symbols. Repeat the two steps for each model package you want to add the custom symbols to.

  3. Optional: Because you have added the custom symbols to the default configuration, all newly created model packages will have the custom symbols. If you do not want that, close Enterprise Studio and remove the added custom symbols again from the SymbolDefinitions folder in your default tool configuration.
