The UML language does not prescribe how to create UML package diagrams. The following procedure shows a general approach to create one, but you are free to determine your own way of working.

Steps:

  1. Add packages. You can create new packages, but also use existing ones, if available in your model.



  2. Organize the packages by creating a hierarchy.



  3. Create relationships between the packages and further specify them. That includes defining the type of relationship, using dependencies, package imports, package merges, element imports, and generalizations.
