The property selection window that is used when generating a label, tooltip, color, or compare view has a number of options that can be (de)activated before generating the view filter. These options are located in the lower part of the window, as can be seen in the following selection window for generating a color view.

On this page:

Navigation via model or via metamodel

One of the first steps in creating a view filter is selecting the object(s), or diagram or view to determine the selection for your view filter. After selecting an object or diagram or view, the property selection window has the option button Navigate via model selected. The property overview in the window only shows the properties, and possibly metrics in case of an ArchiMate® model, of the selected element. Metrics are not available in the compare view.

If you click the Navigate via metamodel option button, the overview does not show the object and its properties, but all object types that are present in the metamodel of the model, and the relation types between them as well as their properties.

If you do not select an element before creating the view filter, this is also the only possible way to navigate. This is an alternative way to search and select the desired properties for your view filter.

Examples of navigation via model

  • application services used by business processes (direct relations with other objects (via object relations))
  • the process owner of business processes (profile property)
  • the components that realize the application services that are used by business processes (associated objects (via several relation and concept objects))
  • the functional manager of the components that realize the application services that are used by the business processes (profile property of associated objects (via several relation and concept objects))

Display of relation roles

Like in the Navigator, you can use the Show general relation roles check box to indicate whether the relations shown in the properties overview must be decomposed into subcategories or not. If not selected, the relations will be shown in several subcategories. If the check box is selected, all relations of the same type (and their related objects) will be shown as one navigation category.

Show general relation roles active (left) and inactive (right)

Apply view filter to only active or to all open diagrams and views

By default, the viewpoint that is created based on the view filter will be applied to all open diagrams and views in the model. If you want it to be applied to only the active diagram or view, clear the Apply view filter to all open views in model check box in the selection window.

Any diagrams and views that are opened after activation of the view filter, will automatically have the view filter applied.

Time modeling option

If you are generating a label, tooltip, color, or compare view for a Roadmap view, the option Use time-dependent values is available for including timed values instead of the default time-independent values. For more information, please refer to Generating a view filter based on timed values.
