When trying to do an import in an ArchiMate model, the import functions are not active in the ribbon. Example:

If there is no import function active at all, it is very likely that there is no focus on the model package, on any ArchiMate model, or on any section in the model. The availability of an ArchiMate import function requires selection of the model package or an ArchiMate model or section in it in the model browser. Which import function (file format) is available depends on where the focus is:

• On the model package: the XMI/XML import is available
• On a model: the XMI/XML, ArchiMate, CSV, and Visio import are available

In order to make the import function of your choice available, do as follows:

• In the model browser, select the model package or an ArchiMate model or section in the model.

The ArchiMate import function of your choice should now  be available. Example:
