In addition to the shape, you can add an image or icon to an object to distinguish it visually from other objects of the same type. Imagine you have modeled your organization as a business actor, but you want to distinguish it from other business actors by adding your company logo to the shape. This can be achieved with the Set Image command on the Markup ribbon.
- Select the object in the view.
- On the Markup ribbon, click Image.
- Select an image (in PNG or JPG format) to use as icon from your file system. The selected image should be small enough to fit inside the shape.
- Optional: Initially, the image is placed in the left upper corner of the object shape. You can drag it to another location within the shape with your mouse. If necessary, you can also resize it.
Do not move the icon outside of the object shape. Then it will get detached from the object and become a separate graphic shape on your view.
Technically it is also possible to add an image or icon to a relation, but the image/icon will not be attached to the relation, like it does with an object. If you would move the relation, the added image or icon will not move with it. You will need to separately move the image or icon, or select it together with the relation before moving.
Positioning the icon on the object
Move the position of the image or icon in the object. When added, the image or icon is placed in the upper left corner of the object. If you want it to be located elsewhere, select it and move it within the object. Do not move the icon outside of the object shape. Then it will get detached from the object and become a separate graphic shape on your view.
